An autoclave is a type of machinery that utilizes steam to sanitize equipment and tools used in medical, scientific, and various other fields. Ideally, it is preferred to supply steam to the autoclave using a stand-alone or built-in steam generator, which is specifically built to provide steam for autoclave sterilization.

What is an Autoclave Steam Generator?

Autoclaves are enclosed chambers that use steam to clean and sanitize equipment or materials. They are generally used in facilities that contain equipment or tools that are used on multiple people. Once the object or media is placed within the autoclave’s chamber, it is exposed to high temperatures (usually around 121° C) as well as steam that is pressurized to at least 1.1 Bar G (16 PSI).

One of the most important elements of an autoclave is the steam generator. An autoclave steam generator is a separate component that is specifically used to produce and supply steam to the autoclave. The most common types of steam generators include external steam generators, integral steam generators, and heaters within the chamber, all of which work to supply on-demand steam for the sterilization process.
